The Good, Bad, Ugly and Scary

Gizzeria, Italy

One sector of our amazing Southern Italian road trip was coming to an end.

We’d been on the road for 11 days. The time had come for our adventurous and brave friends to fly out, and for us to down size the car rental.

It was also Halloween and things were about to get…weird.

Gizzeria is a sleepy seaside town near the airport SUF at the very footy part of the boot of Italy.

Sleepy is not quite the word, more like asleep or hibernating.

Everything about Gizzeria screams summer and fun but not after September.

Which is fine we knew it was off season.

Our hotel was very grand looking inside and out.

Sweeping staircases and big open spaces.

This is the lobby bar.

The weather was very creepy.

Which added to the halloweenyness of it all.

Nothing doing at the beach.

Time to get ready for tonight! There was no party or mention of Halloween at this hotel.

We were making our own party.

And the venue couldn’t be better.

Everyone met in the lobby before dinner.

This poor lady got sucked into our vibe.

She was cool with it.

So many great places to do our private Halloween photo shoot.

If there’s any movie producers out there interested in this location shoot me a message and I’ll hook you up.

With the photoshoot out of the way, off we went to the hotel restaurant (only open restaurant in town).

It was all fancy like with white tablecloths, real napkins and shiny cutlery. A tray of the catch of the day was brought out to us which is always impressive.

It was the ugliest fish any of us had ever experienced full stop. Monk fish.

Went to the kitchen to see if we should be scared of this forthcoming meal and found this lady!

Yup! The one from the lobby.

She had a smiley face and was huggable so we ordered up that fish with renewed enthusiasm.

Enjoying our beverages we noticed something.

No one else was dressed up.

No one else even turned their head in our direction let alone made eye contact with us.

It was fine, and along came dinner to distract us.

And BOY OH BOY did it distract us.

What the… are those legs!? Seems to have a full spine.

Was it trying to run away when suddenly it got dropped into the fryer and surprised with a dollop of tomato sauce!

If nothing else it provided a good laugh.

Here’s a picture of the very beautiful dessert we had to erase the image of youknowwhat above that will probably live rent free in your mind forever now so I’m sorry about that.

Do not scroll up or you will see it again!

Back to dessert.

Lovely.

The end of a wonderful, fly by the seat of your pants, no reservations trip was here.

And then there was 2 again.

Off to Sicily.
