Siracusa – Ortigia

Sicily stop 3

Woke up in our 2nd B & B in Taormina and had coffee with a view.

It wasn’t an awesome stay and I won’t be recommending it.

Got us up and outta there nice and early though.

The drive to wherever we end up next was very scenic.

Roads were good.

Stopped for a McBreak wait, this isn’t …

The Sicilians they do what they want to.

You don’t get a scenic drive along the water here.

That’s for their farms and their people.

Which I love ❤️

Here’s what we get.

A palm tree farm I think?

Doesn’t suck.

Not really any restaurants or nice stops along the way.

Eureka moment!

That’s when I figured it out!

We must be on the wrong side of Sicily. The non tourist part.

That doesn’t really explain Taormina though does it.

Here’s how far we drove to get to somewhere we could stay.

Siracusa

Went from Taormina to almost the bottom of Sicily.

A place called Siracusa.

Found a nice B & B on the water.

This is our 2nd floor balcony.

This was our view in the morning.

It was very mesmerizing to watch the fisherman fixing the lines.

SOS Humanity

Took a walk down the wharf and saw this!

The SOS Humanity rescues people in the Mediterranean.

We rescue, protect, bear witness, and promote change.

SOS HUMANITY

They post regularly about what’s happening out there in the Med.

If you’d like to follow or donate or just see what the news won’t show you check them out SOS Humanity.

Really impressive organization.

Island of Ortigia

Siracusa is right on the edge of a causeway leading to the island of Ortigia.

You can walk across.

It seems like it would be a local vacation spot with some ( not a lot) cutesy stores.

Like this spice shop.

There’s also some ruins here.

I like this persons style.

We walked to the very end of the island.

There’s a fort there.

Basically this picture says:

‘Well, I guess that’s it for here”.

And this one is saying:

‘Yup, that’s a wrap but there’s just one more stop’.

We walked by earlier and had to return to this incredible local bakery/ coffee shop.

Lookie here:

And yes that’s Stevo calling me an old lady and trying to move me along at the end there.

We bought extra for the road trip tomorrow.

At this rate we’ll be all the way around Sicily in 3 days!

Although this was not an action packed stop, we did stop here so it’s worth a mention.

I’m sure it’s very lively come summer time.

And no one yelled at us so that was nice.

Keep going! Next post here:
