Agropoli, Italy
We’re free to roam wherever we please. We have car!
Sounds great.
Cause it is.
However there are times that all these choices can overwhelm you.
Just look at this map of all the places you’ve never heard of in Italy. Now pick one and make it good cause if it sucks everyone’s gonna blame you.

There’s a lot. Where to next.

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of dining out with me you’ll know that too many choices is no bueno.
The official diagnosis of this condition is Paralysis by Analysis.
Agropoli was chosen as our next destination. It met the criteria for having great accommodation and being less than a 2 hr drive away.

The pictures showed a modern looking room right on a beautiful expansive beach.
We were not disappointed.
The owners at MC B and B came out to meet us on the street when we arrived.
They set up our parking, and helped carry luggage up the 2 flights of stairs to our rooms.
You could tell they spent a lot of time upgrading absolutely everything here.

You walk up the stairs of an old building (everything’s old in Europe) and step into a contemporary hotel.

Success! If you’d like to see more of this gem of a place click HERE the picture above of the room really doesn’t do it justice.
This whole town, as many in Europe, is closed for 2 reasons:
- Tourist season is over (October)
- Everything closes every day, all over Italy, between 2 and 5pm
Of course we like to arrive at our destination precisely 10 minutes before the afternoon shutdown.
Keeps the adrenaline up as we rush to eat somewhere.
I want to show you something.
Here’s that fancy shmancy restaurant from Sorrento:

If you missed it, you can read about that experience HERE
This here below is the restaurant we found a block away from our BnB in Agropoli, actually the ONLY open place we could find without getting in the car.
Doesn’t look special.

It didn’t even have a name out front. A couple of small tables outside caught our eye and gave us hope.
A quick thought did cross my mind that someone just had a table outside of their place to smoke and we were possibly about to walk into someone’s living room.
No, it was a restaurant we were good.
We were seated by a nice lady who rushed away to grab some menus. While we waited, I noticed this sign hung proudly on the wall inside.

A Fanta and Pizza award. That was good enough for me. This place was going to be just fine.
Anna’s. This was Anna’s restaurant.
The olive oil in the restaurant was local, a neighbour. Love this 💚
Anna’s family used to have their own oil at the restaurant. Alas no more because during covid, wild boars devastated their trees and they could no longer produce olives.

Boo hated this 😢 like covid didn’t do enough damage to small businesses. What next locusts!
Here was Anna, smiley happy and friendly sharing her story with us.
This is what you get when you go to the less commercial places.
Real people who want to give you the best experience they can.
Real stories. Wild boars.
All that glitters is not gold.
Looks are deceiving. The food at Anna’s way surpassed the other sparkly place.

These experiences are the reasons we travel.
Hidden gems.
Thank you Anna’s!
With renewed energy we headed out on the town.
There was time to walk to the sea and dip your toe in just to say you were there.
One of us did.

See that mountain in the back. Little did we know we would find ourselves atop that shortly.
‘Let’s walk off that lunch and head to the castle’ said one of our people.
It was a long uphill climb of which this is the only photo. Apparently whining and photography are not mutually aligned activities.
This guys got a nice view.

Not as nice as this one!

Here we are just outside the castle. People live here.
It’s an impressive abode with a castle neighbour and a red and purple flower explosion.

Went into the castle. Came out of the castle, and back down we went.
I make it sound fast but it was wayyyyyy up there.
No way to get anywhere fastly from there.
It was time for a beverage when we got back down to street level.
A quaint, dark fisherman’s pub right on the water getting ready for Halloween festivities fit the bill nicely.

So there must be some people around here.
A complimentary snack (tapas) of olives, lima beans and Buffalato mozzarella (local of course).

And early to bed.
This adventure thing can wear you down.
What better place to chill out than our pretty, comfy room.
The next day started with this view.

Our room included a breakfast voucher that got us a fluffy Nutella flavoured croissant and 2 cappuccino’s.

Over and out Agropoli, thanks for the eats and sleeps.
