Tropea, Italy
We decided to make one more stop in Tropea before Sicily.
If this place was 1/10th as good as what we researched, it would be worth the stop.

We were not disappointed.
Arriving in Tropea
Driving in you have cliffs on the one side, right up against the road with the town rising up from the top.

On the other side you have the most beautiful turquoise water.

So scenic even sideways!
The view looking over the island monastery from the town above was spectacular.

Banksy is that you?

How many times do you think this cute little painting has been photographed.
Placement is genius being right at the lookout.
Lunch Break in the Square
Grabbed a quick rice ball lunch.

It was delicious and wow so many flavours.
Why aren’t these shops in Canada? We need something new like this.
Sat down at a local cafe to do some people watching and guess what?

Joke was on us cause we were also being watched lol.

Nonna sees all.
Hotel Hunting
We normally don’t book accommodations before we get to the place and scope it out.
It has been our experience that the best way to get a place is to go there and do your research in real time.
Not every hotel is online and even the ones that are sometimes give you a better rate if you book directly with them.
Location Location
There’s the location aspect of it as well.
An ad might say close to town square but omits it’s up a cliff with no cars allowed. Define close.
We learned the hard way.
Sharing is caring.
Here’s our hotel. Truly in town and all the action as well as on budget.

Great deck to watch the police ticket every car that stayed still a little too long.
Wow were they aggressive. They had to be with the streets so tight.
Our room was nice and comfy.

Very museum like I’d say.
Town stroll
That night we hit the town.

They love their chili peppers there.
Lots of souvenir shops.

Classic, low lit alleys.

Authentically old homes.

Anyone else see the beauty of this place? Maybe it’s just me.
All in all this town has been overtaken with its efforts to attract tourism and in the process has lost some of its old world charm.
That said it’s also very pretty.
Is this a great place to take a rest or what.
A bench with trees, simple and beautiful.

Ended the night off at this mom and pop pizza place.

They seemed somewhat out of place with all the shmarmy martini bars and bistros.
Exactly why we chose to sit there and watch the world go by for a bit.
Tomorrow it’s Sicily!
