Erice, Sicily

Last Stop

Erice is an ancient town (like legit ancient) that basically touches the clouds. It’s sitting 2400 ft above sea level on Mount Erice.

A cable car joins the upper and lower parts of Erice here.

Never heard of it and it kind of freaks me out that I may have never found this place if we had not taken this Sicily road trip.

I shall share it with you.

One of my all time favourite places.

Let’s have a look.

The streets are made for horses and there’s no changing that with armour like walls.

Erice, Sicily

Driving through them you:

a. Wonder if we’re supposed to be driving through them.

b. Will your car to become flexible to accommodate the corners.

There is no way to truly capture the beauty and sheer historical vibe in pictures so I don’t have many.

What’s even better is it’s off season (November) and there are only a handful of tourists and they aren’t staying in town.

Of course there’s a church and bell tower.

Of course Stevo is mesmerized.

How long did it take to lay these roads down.

They have certainly stood the test of time.

Could this have been added after the roads or was it incorporated into the design.

Here we are sitting at a cafe positioned just outside the gates of Erice.

I don’t love that tower.

I checked this listing out.

It’s Uber modern inside with a courtyard and will run you around 300k in euros.

The perimeter of town has all these trails with gnarly trees mixed with flowers and stone walls.

Very dense.

Erice was our last real stop on this tour.

It was a great way to end the trip.

We flew out of Palermo to Barcelona and jumped on a transatlantic cruise to Tampa.

Last minute idea.

Overall thoughts on Sicily:

So impressed with the amount of agriculture here. Sicily is feeding the world!

If you want to visit, stick to the tourist areas I’ve mentioned in these posts.

A beautiful place with the most vibrant delicious food you could ask for.

The adventure started here:

Sicily here we come – just one more stop.

Thanks for coming along with us and please share if enjoyed the journey.
