You can’t be in Greece without going to Athens can you?
So a slightly longer road trip plan was set into motion – leading us to Athens of course!
The scenery was stunning.

The roads were amazing and I kid you not there were restrooms every 3km.
Like wow, what a concept! Human beings need to go to the bathroom on road trips?
I’m talking to you ‘restrooms every 100 km’ Ontario highways! Ridiculous.
Everything was going to plan.

We would be having a beverage under the Acropolis by 1pm.
After 29€ in toll fees ( well worth it) mission accomplished. At 1pm we had successfully reached our 1st stop.

Everything was perfect.
Too perfect…
Having stayed in Athens for a month or so in the not so distant past I felt fairly confident in my ability to book a hotel room ‘close to everything’ whilst getting the best possible deal.
November is the beginning of low season here in Greece and finding a good deal should be easy peasy.
And it was.
After reading the reviews and self assessing the good with the bad, I settled on The Atheneum Grand Hotel.

Right in the same area as The Intercontinental and The Grand hotel.
So cute just look at this lobby:

I’d go so far as to say it was downright swanky.
And it was.
Me: Stevo, when are you coming back to the hotel?

Stevo: Ummm soonish

Guess what?
Our hotel was not only in a very populated strip joint area, it was smack in the middle (I’d say attached) to one on either side.

Zoom in:

When we initially drove up to check in I was like what the actual ‘fork’ is this?

Stevo was strangely quiet.
They were everywhere. Here’s one across the street:
They go until 6 am in the morning.
And for some late night fun, grab a coffee and head down to the lobby.
Here you can watch the ‘dates’ (by the looks of them and their cars, high end dates) going to their…’meetings’ from the comfort of your very own swinging chair.

A glamorous atmosphere I guess.
Here’s the thing, it was 60€ /night.
It was clean, swanky and it’s location to attractions other than strip joints – like oh, I don’t know the Acropolis and downtown was a 10 minute walk.
If Stevo had booked this place …

I can say without reservation I would be questioning his choice criteria.
Honestly there was no way to know this was a sex club area cause I FOR SURE wouldn’t have booked here.
Moral of the story:
Don’t judge a book by its cover. We had a great stay, found incredible food and the people watching was above and beyond.
