Castle Stay ✅

San Gregorio da Sassola, Italy

A castle stay should really be on everyone’s bucket list.

It just makes sense.

So many medieval towns rising up from the lush forest landscape, each one unique from the next as we continue along our road trip.

This is the one we picked. This is San Gregorio da Sassola, she drew us in and we stayed for a bit.

Back in the day these stone walls kept out the ever present threat of hostile invaders.

Now they just keep out our cell signals and hide the location of our vacation rental.

Even if you have a signal, google maps starts out strong giving you false hope and than gives up leaving you at a statue in a pedestrian area – or something like that.

Look closely here, I bet that’s what happened to this poor statue. Notice the tie straps at the bottom.

Ok ok it was us who ended up in this google predicament but we didn’t touch the statue thanks to a perfectly executed 32 point turn from Stevo.

Our caring host Ashley wanted us to actually find her place so she devised a map to use off line.

More like a treasure map of symbols and waypoints that would lead us to our door.

We screenshot the directions and set off on our adventure.

Please could someone come up with local treasure map adventures for tourists!

This was so fun and the anticipation was next level.

Look how high up!

We had a skeleton key to open the door.

A skeleton key that under any other circumstances would be considered an antique decoration.

How refreshing it was to enter a space that was not IKEA design.

It was traditional, contemporary, …unique and beautiful.

We wandered through each space enjoying the Italian decor.

My favourite room was this small sitting room with velvet everything and cozy dark.

Velvet oh how I love thee 💙 and the Persian rug is completely my jam.

It’s like living in a castle with castle like things that are new not old but also old 😝

A chandelier in the bedroom…hello I love it.

Why not? Who said chandeliers were just for foyers and dining rooms.

We’re a big proponent of treating yourself if that’s an option.

For instance if you have your family’s bone China and wine goblets wrapped up in a box in your garage, go get them.

Use them. If they break than at least it was by you and not the movers or someone who got it from a donation centre.

Orange juice in elaborate heavy goblets tastes better!

Which incidentally were also available at our little castle getaway.

Team meetings in the kitchen.

Quick walk out the door and down the path and you are standing at the ancient wall overlooking …art.

Blue skies, fluffy clouds, mountains and even sheep grazing in a pasture.

If you can’t see the sheep below just imagine them there. We’re up high and the photo didn’t capture them very closely.

This mountainous picture below cannot be fully appreciated as the depth and details are lost in a sea of green.

You can tell it’s windy tho! 💨

There were also these artsy installations along the paths.

An ode to something historically relevant that I did not write down unfortunately.

After a full first day of excitement we head out to the town outside the castle gates to have some pizza and wine under soft patio lights.

🎵 that’s Amore 🎶

Arrive home and notice this beauty above the walkway hanging over the neighbours balcony.

Yes, it’s the very illusive but native to these parts…

Baby wine! 🍇

Our first exposure to this beautiful vacation rental in San Gregorio da Sassola was a smashing success.
